Go outside in nature and seat yourself comfortably and away from any forms of technology. If outside is not possible then seat yourself by a window. Remain as still as possible, if an itch arises, observe it as a passing cloud; do not chase it. You should only move your eyes. Instead of looking at things, let the world come to you. Practice "Soft Gaze." Keep your head still, but expand your peripheral vision until you can see the edges of the sky and the ground simultaneously. Listen to the sounds around you don't label them ("that's a bird"); simply hear the pitch and the distance. Next, try to shift your consciousness to other objects and view the world from that perspective. Ask yourself: How does the sun feel to that stone? How does the wind taste to that leaf? Move from "I am looking at the tree" to "The tree is witnessing the day, and I am part of that day. When you can master this you will see that everything views the world in a different way. When you decide to end the session, do not rush. Wiggle your fingers first, acknowledging that you are returning to your human form, carrying the "sight" of the forest back with you. "To sit still is to walk through the doors of the universe." By mastering this, you realize that "identity" is fluid. You are not just a person in nature; you are a localized point of consciousness in a vast, vibrating web of perspectives.
